Movie Matcher — Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Movie Matcher (the "Service"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. About the Service

Movie Matcher helps you compare two IMDb user rating profiles (user IDs like ur…) and presents statistics, overlap, and recommendations.

No affiliation. The Service is an independent project and is not affiliated with IMDb or its parent companies.
Third‑party properties. "IMDb" and related marks are trademarks of their respective owners. Any third‑party content shown in the Service remains owned by its respective owners.

2. Eligibility

You must be legally able to enter into a binding agreement to use the Service. If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent you have authority to bind that organization.

3. Accounts & security

You are responsible for all activity on your account and for keeping your credentials and session secure.
You must provide accurate information when creating an account.
You may not share your account in a way that enables abuse or evasion of limits.

4. Acceptable use

Do not use the Service for unlawful, harmful, deceptive, or abusive activities (including harassment, spam, or fraud).
Do not attempt to interfere with or disrupt the Service (including introducing malware, probing, scanning, denial-of-service attacks, or circumventing rate limits).
Do not reverse engineer, scrape, crawl, or harvest data at scale, or use automated means beyond normal browsing behavior.
You are responsible for ensuring your use of the Service complies with applicable laws and any third‑party terms that may apply.

5. IMDb / third‑party data

The Service accesses data from public webpages and/or public endpoints used by IMDb’s own site. Availability may change at any time due to rate limits, blocks, technical changes, or policy changes.
You may only use the Service with IMDb profiles you are authorized to use (for example your own profile, or a friend who explicitly asked you to compare).
You understand and agree that your use of the Service may be impacted by third‑party actions or restrictions and that the Service is not responsible for any resulting loss of access, data, or functionality.

6. Output is informational (no guarantees)

Matches, statistics, recommendations, and optional AI-generated insights are estimates and may be incorrect or incomplete.
You remain solely responsible for decisions you make based on the Service’s output.

7. Data storage, caching, and privacy basics

When you connect an IMDb user or start a sync, the server may store ratings and related metadata temporarily or longer (for example for caching and/or in a database) to speed up comparisons.
Your browser may use local storage to remember inputs (such as previously entered profile links).
We aim to minimize stored data to what is reasonably necessary to provide the Service.

8. Availability, changes, and beta nature

The Service is provided on an "as available" basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted operation, error-free results, or that any feature will remain available. Features may be added, modified, or removed at any time.

9. Intellectual property

The Service’s code, design, and branding (excluding third‑party content) are owned by the operator or its licensors. Nothing in these Terms grants you any right to use trademarks or branding without permission.

10. Disclaimer of warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or business opportunities, arising out of or related to your use of (or inability to use) the Service.

Where liability cannot be excluded, the operator’s total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service will be limited to the amount you paid for the Service in the twelve (12) months before the event giving rise to the claim (which, if you paid nothing, is limited to EUR 10).

12. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the operator from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from or related to: (a) your use of the Service; (b) your violation of these Terms; or (c) your violation of any third‑party rights (including rights related to IMDb data).

13. Notices, complaints, and rights holder / IMDb contact

If you believe the Service violates your rights, IMDb policies, or applicable law, please contact us first so we can investigate and, where appropriate, resolve the issue (including removing content, restricting access, or disabling features).

Please include: (a) your name and contact details; (b) the specific URL(s) and a description of the issue; (c) the legal basis for your request; and (d) any supporting documentation.
Cure period. Unless legally prohibited or in urgent circumstances, we ask that you allow a reasonable period (typically 7 business days) for us to respond before escalating.

14. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe it is necessary to protect the Service, comply with law, address abuse, or reduce risk.

15. Governing law and venue

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, without regard to conflict of laws rules. To the extent permitted by law, you agree to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the courts located in Amsterdam.

16. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top indicates when changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
